Getting there:

How to get there: from South Africa, fly directly to Pemba with SA Airlink from Joburg or LAM from Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. Air transfers to Ibo Island from Pemba can be booked and cost $465 per person for a return flight in a light aircraft. International flights must be booked by the client, transfers can be booked by TMC.

Undisturbed for centuries, this World Heritage nominated island is like taking a walk through history. Forgotten to the outside world, this is one of the most unique, magical islands in the world. Daily trips to the sand ban beach provide the perfect beach experience, while walking around Ibo Island gives for the a walk through time, enjoying the historical magic of the island. The lodge also offers overnight (up to 8 nights) mobile Island hopping dhow safaris for the more adventurous that would like to experience the Quirimbas archipelago. Activities from the lodge include SCUBA diving, dolphin encounters, dhow sailing, bird safaris, kayaking, etc.

Our Niassa Garden rooms step out from huge verandas into lush tropical gardens with chunky palm trees that provide shade around the Niassa dip pool.

PRIVATE VILLA PARADISO:

This beautifully restored building can cater for up to 12 guests and has private facilities including its own pool and garden, kitchen and roof top terrace. One of the most unique Private Mozambique Villas available.

COST: from $2,850 per villa per night (1 to 5 people).

WHAT’S TO DO:

The highlight of staying at the lodge is that you get to experience the history and culture of the island first hand, which is obviously the biggest attraction.

The tour is fantastic, ending up in the old fort watching this silversmith’s in action!

Ibo Island lodge provides a wide array of other activities include scuba diving and swimming with wild dolphins (something that should be on everyone’s bucket list. The daily voyage to the sand bank is paradise!
